Jasmine DeCastro is a go-to-market and business recruiter for Vanta. She has been at Vanta since August 2020.
Tell us about your role at Vanta.
As a go-to-market and business recruiter for Vanta, I recruit for roles across our non-technical teams, such as Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, and Finance. I was the first recruiter on the go-to-market side of the business, which was a unique opportunity to really help build out and shape a lot of our teams. At Vanta we are recruiting very quickly so being able to contribute to that growth is super exciting - for example, our Customer Success team went from 5 to 20+ team members just this year.
What made you realize this was the right career field for you?
I was a political science major in college so my intent and career aspiration was to go to law school and eventually become a lawyer. Once I graduated, I went to a legal staffing agency to try and get a job at a law firm. Funny enough, by the end of the interview, I was presented with an opportunity to join the team as a recruiter. I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to gain more insight into the legal industry and build the proper network with different legal communities. A few months into the role, I quickly realized that pursuing a career in law was not for me, but I really enjoyed the recruiting aspect of my job, and the ability to build connections with people to help them find their next career move. After that position, I transitioned to in-house recruiting, which has allowed me to see the greater role recruiting plays within a company’s growth. I’ve now been a recruiter for the last 4-5 years and I really love it.
What is your favorite thing about working at Vanta?
The people are my favorite part of working at Vanta. There is a high level of kindness, empathy, and willingness to help across the entire organization. It’s so refreshing to have that, especially since we are growing and moving so quickly. In my mind, it’s important to have a product that everyone believes in but also just as important to have a community of colleagues that genuinely care about you and work to build an inclusive work environment across the board. You want to like your job, the company mission, and the people that you are working with every day - at Vanta, there is a great balance of all of these aspects. We’re lucky to have an environment where you can lean on your coworkers. It sounds cheesy, but I promise you can feel it.
Why are you excited about Vanta’s product?
Prior to working at Vanta, I had little to no experience with SOC 2 nor an understanding of security and compliance on a business scale. Seeing at a high level what our product does, not only how we’re disrupting the industry but how we’re empowering companies to be compliant is very powerful. Especially in the case of smaller companies, we are helping them do something that they couldn't do before, and providing accessibility to the tools and resources needed so they can do right by their customers from the very beginning. I think we have been able to really solidify ourselves in the market because of this and I’m just excited to be a part of it.
If you could be on a game show, which would it be?
A few years ago, my family and I auditioned for Family Feud. It’s probably the closest I'll ever be to being on reality TV. We’ve always played Family Feud at home whether it was on an old DVD set or not on our Switch. There was a casting a few years ago in San Jose so we sent in an application and were selected to come in for an audition. We kind of fumbled during the audition but it was a really fun experience!
