THE CHALLENGE

Updating policies and infrastructure to go to market faster

When Philip Edge joined Registrar Corp as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), the company's focus was on rapidly growing the business and scaling operations to meet demand. 

Registrar Corp needed to fortify the company’s security posture and infrastructure to follow suit—updating systems, formalizing security processes, and eliminating tool sprawl. He also needed dedicated expertise and bandwidth.  His lean four-person engineering team didn’t have the experience or time to manage a complex compliance program while also staying focused on strategic priorities. 

With the FDA as Registrar Corp’s biggest competitor, standing out was critical. Vanta helped them build credibility, shorten deal cycles, and accelerate growth.

A strategic partnership for automated compliance 

Philip’s first order of business was ISO 27001. But to achieve this certification and scale securely, Philip knew they needed an expert solution and collaborative partner that could accommodate their global team, support AWS resources, and guide execution without heavy internal lift. 

As Philip started to compare solutions, he remembered a Vanta billboard he saw in Austin years earlier. After conducting research, meeting with competitors, and speaking with his peers, Vanta became a clear winner. “Some of my contacts recommended Vanta, but Vanta’s responsiveness and engagement are what really sealed the deal. Competitors didn’t offer the same kind of service,” says Phillip. 

Knowing that implementation would be difficult for his small team, Philip wanted a partner for the process as well as ongoing compliance and advisory support—especially with new acquisitions on the horizon. Vanta recommended Rhymetec, a trusted cybersecurity partner known for its expert virtual CISO services and hands-on audit support. 

Rhymetec was instrumental in implementing Vanta and helping Registrar Corp achieve ISO 27001 by providing technical guidance and audit prep. Rhymetec also acts as a trusted advisor, helping manage Registrar Corp’s security program and ongoing acquisitions.

Apart from achieving ISO 27001 with Vanta and Rhymetec, Registrar Corp uses a Vanta Trust Center to build trust and credibility with current and potential customers. Philip notes that their Trust Center is something that the company is particularly proud of: It’s front and center on their website, featured in marketing materials, used in board decks, and helps the sales team accelerate deals with prospective customers.

Registrar Corp’s partnership with Vanta and Rhymetec has transformed their security posture, leading to a powerful competitive advantage. Registrar Corp achieved ISO compliance on an accelerated timeline and nailed the first audit attempt for both the 2013 and 2022 ISO versions. 

Throughout the partnership, Registrar Corp has also seen:

• Scaling without headcount: Vanta’s automation has saved Registrar Corp almost $500,000 in headcount without losing focus on strategic priorities and compliance readiness.
• Automated processes: By moving away from manual monitoring and evidence collection, Registrar Corp saves 160 hours a week. 
• Shortened deal cycles: Prospects and current customers can download security information directly from the Trust Center, building trust immediately. It also freed the team from an overload of security questionnaires, with Philip noting they’ve only seen a handful since launching Trust Center. 
• Accelerated M&A: New acquisitions can be easily vetted and onboarded into Registrar Corp’s ISO framework. So far, Registrar Corp has onboarded six acquired companies seamlessly with Vanta and Rhymetec. 
• Improved visibility: Vanta gives Registrar Corp complete control and visibility into their security posture and infrastructure, moving them from reactive to proactive security. 

Philip says the time savings and reduced manual workload have been key in enabling Registrar Corp’s growth. Most importantly, Vanta and Rhymetec have given him peace of mind, knowing the company is secure. 

Looking forward, Registrar Corp has additional acquisitions planned, and those companies are excited about being onboarded into Registrar Corp’s ISO framework. Philip is also exploring new frameworks, like GDPR, and he’s confident that Rhymetec and Vanta will continue to play vital roles as their security program evolves.
