Meet the Team!

Tell us about your role at Vanta

I’m currently a Software Engineer Intern on the platform team. I’ve been working to improve Vanta’s backend capabilities while working closely to ensure our infrastructure is as scalable/secure as possible!

Give us an overview of your experience

I’ve been working on completely revamping the way we manage all of our third-party integrations and building out a brand new OAuth authentication service. In the past three months, I’ve architected a brand new service for customers in terraform complete with load balancing/gateway rules to manage scalability/network security. I’ve also created a complete unit-testing framework for all of our OAuth flows. In addition, I’ve revamped how we test these integrations end-to-end and migrated close to fifteen integrations all onto a new service.

I’ve also gotten the chance to contribute to an open-source graphql project, add a brand new OAuth API endpoint for Vanta’s newest product rollout, and improve our driftctl (an open-source client to catch infrastructure drift) coverage for all of Vanta’s infrastructure.

What made you realize this was the right internship for you?

Throughout the whole interview process, I could tell I would get the chance to have a lot of ownership over my project during the summer while also getting the chance to build something that would be vital to the company even after my internship. During my initial calls with both my recruiter and mentor, I could tell my input was important to what I would be working on and the work I did would add strong value to the company.

Why did you decide to choose Vanta over other companies?

I enjoyed all the people I met during the entire interview process, both within and outside the engineering org. They were all incredibly knowledgeable and clearly passionate about Vanta’s mission. I also had a great conversation with one of the engineers on my current team who really solidified that Vanta was what I was looking for in my next summer internship.

Why are you excited about Vanta’s mission and/or product?

With the recent explosion in our use of software, security is definitely something that has been overlooked by many companies. I remember when I first heard about Vanta, my first thought was “why hasn’t this been built before?” Vanta truly has transformed the way our industry thinks about attaining compliance standards as a whole while also making the process much more accessible to smaller companies. Christina’s long-term vision on compliance as a means to improve the broader security for all companies is really powerful—it ensures that the internet of the future will be much more secure.

If you could work from anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I’d love to try and work from Hawaii. I would really enjoy the chance to be able to go hiking after work or even try my hand at surfing on one of the various beaches!

PCI Compliance Selection Guide

Determine Your PCI Compliance Level

If your organization processes, stores, or transmits cardholder data, you must comply with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), a global mandate created by major credit card companies. Compliance is mandatory for any business that accepts credit card payments.

When establishing strategies for implementing and maintaining PCI compliance, your organization needs to understand what constitutes a Merchant or Service Provider, and whether a Self Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ) or Report on Compliance (ROC) is most applicable to your business.

The PCI Security Standards Council has established the below criteria for Merchant and Service Provider validation. Use these descriptions to help determine the SAQ or ROC that best applies to your organization.

Good news! Vanta supports all of the following compliance levels:


A SAQ A is required for Merchants that do not require the physical presence of a credit card (like an eCommerce, mail, or telephone purchase). This means that the Merchant’s business has fully outsourced all cardholder data processing to PCI DSS compliant third party Service Providers, with no electronic storage, processing, or transmission of any cardholder data on the Merchant’s system or premises.

A SAQ A-EP is similar to a SAQ A, but is a requirement for Merchants that don't receive cardholder data, but control how cardholder data is redirected to a PCI DSS validated third-party payment processor.

for service providers

A SAQ D includes over 200 requirements and covers the entirety of PCI DSS compliance. If you are a Service Provider, a SAQ D is the only SAQ you’re eligible to complete.

A Report on Compliance (ROC) is an annual assessment that determines your organization’s ability to protect cardholder data. If you’re a Merchant that processes over six million transactions annually or a Service Provider that processes more than 300,000 transactions annually, your organization is responsible for both a ROC and an Attestation of Compliance (AOC).
