Vanta's new look: A customer-based redesign

Vanta's new look: A customer-based redesign

Putting customers first

At Vanta, what and how we build is driven by the needs of our customers. We believe so much in this way of doing things, that we’ve codified “putting the customer first” as one of our core principles in how we approach our day-to-day work at Vanta.

To deliver on this customer-centric approach, we’re constantly intaking, reviewing, and prioritizing your feedback to shape Vanta’s product roadmap. One popular piece of feedback we heard is the desire for clearer direction on what to do within Vanta on a day-by-day basis. Specifically, when preparing for an audit or during an audit window, you want a quick, at-a-glance understanding of which actions are needed to remain compliant.

Another popular request is the ability to quickly visualize how your organization is tracking towards its compliance goals. For example, when preparing for a SOC 2 audit, you can easily see how many automated tests your organization is passing on the Tests page, but understanding your company’s progress in securing its People, Computers, or Access requires additional navigation.

Simply put, you asked for an at-a-glance view of what actions are needed today to remain compliant and an easy way to understand your organization’s progress towards its security goals. With your feedback as a guide, we got to work building Vanta’s new look and feel.

You asked, we delivered

Introducing the Home page

Vanta's new Home page

Vanta’s new Home page is a high-level view of your compliance action items and an easy way to see how your organization is tracking towards its security goals. We’ll deep dive into the components that make up the Home page and the value they deliver below.

Priority tasks

Priority tasks on the Home page

Sometimes you just want an answer to: What do I have to do today to remain compliant? The Priority tasks section answers this by displaying your most urgent, time-bound security commitments. Tasks displayed here are either past due or coming soon with due dates or SLA’s associated with them. Tasks can be further filtered by standard, such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001, and urgency to help narrow your focus when tackling high-priority tasks.

Monitoring

Tests on the Home page

To help you track progress overtime as well as to spot any changes to your security posture, the Home page includes a security monitoring section. Tests are displayed first within this section to provide instant insight into how well your organization is meeting the technical requirements of your security program. Clicking into the tests component allows you to take swift action on tasks that need attention or that are due soon.

Tracked resources on the Home page

Located below the tests component is a collection of tracked resources that are crucial to keeping your business secure. In this section, your organization’s most important resources, such as your People, Computers, and Documents, are displayed for quick access and your progress in meeting their compliance requirements.

Home page navigation

Navigate further via the Home page

Use the Home page to quickly understand where to focus your attention, dive into details, and take action. For ease of use, click on any component to investigate further.

New sidebar navigation

Based on your feedback, we also prioritized improvements to Vanta’s navigation system. We recognize that Vanta’s top nav was not as intuitive as it could have been and required the clicking of drop-downs to see what’s nested beneath.

We heard your wish for pages to be easier to access and a more intuitive user experience, so we’re launching a new sidebar navigation.

Navigate faster with the sidebar

Home and Tests

Your most frequented pages are located up top. Home and Tests give you instant insight into how your security program is progressing and on what needs to be done in order to meet your compliance goals.

Document

Your organization’s policies, risk assessments, and collection of non-technical evidence live under the Documents tab. This is where much of the documentation of your company’s security practices and procedures takes place.

Reports

The Reports tab contains all your external resources that reflect your organization’s security posture. Your security standards, such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001, now live under the Compliance page. Trust Reports, understandably, live within Reports, too.

Manage

Review and manage important business resources, such as your People, Computers, and Access, under the Manage tab. Quickly access your Vendors and Inventory pages here as well.

Settings and Integrations

Your company Settings and Integrations are both located at the very bottom of the nav bar. The Connections page is now called Integrations. For a limited time, you can switch back to the top nav view within your Settings.

PCI Compliance Selection Guide

Determine Your PCI Compliance Level

If your organization processes, stores, or transmits cardholder data, you must comply with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), a global mandate created by major credit card companies. Compliance is mandatory for any business that accepts credit card payments.

When establishing strategies for implementing and maintaining PCI compliance, your organization needs to understand what constitutes a Merchant or Service Provider, and whether a Self Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ) or Report on Compliance (ROC) is most applicable to your business.

Answer a few short questions and we’ll help identify your compliance level.

Identify your PCI SAQ or ROC level

The PCI Security Standards Council has established the below criteria for Merchant and Service Provider validation. Use these descriptions to help determine the SAQ or ROC that best applies to your organization.

Good news! Vanta supports all of the following compliance levels:

SAQ A

A SAQ A is required for Merchants that do not require the physical presence of a credit card (like an eCommerce, mail, or telephone purchase). This means that the Merchant’s business has fully outsourced all cardholder data processing to PCI DSS compliant third party Service Providers, with no electronic storage, processing, or transmission of any cardholder data on the Merchant’s system or premises.

Get PCI DSS certified

SAQ A-EP

A SAQ A-EP is similar to a SAQ A, but is a requirement for Merchants that don't receive cardholder data, but control how cardholder data is redirected to a PCI DSS validated third-party payment processor.

SAQ D
for service providers

A SAQ D includes over 200 requirements and covers the entirety of PCI DSS compliance. If you are a Service Provider, a SAQ D is the only SAQ you’re eligible to complete.

Use our PCI checklist

ROC
Level 1 for service providers

A Report on Compliance (ROC) is an annual assessment that determines your organization’s ability to protect cardholder data. If you’re a Merchant that processes over six million transactions annually or a Service Provider that processes more than 300,000 transactions annually, your organization is responsible for both a ROC and an Attestation of Compliance (AOC).
