Meet the Team!

Meet Sunshine!

Hey there! I’m Sunshine (yes, that’s my government name) from the Partnerships Team and I’ve been with Vanta since December 2021. Before that, I worked at Deloitte as a third-party risk management consultant.

Tell us about your role at Vanta

I wear multiple hats. As a CPA, I spend some time being one of our internal compliance SMEs. I also work closely with our Service Partners (vCISOs, Managed Service Providers, Pentesters, etc.) to set them up for success when using and championing Vanta in the field. This means I get to cross-collaborate with the best people ever from Marketing, Engineering, Product and Design, Operations and Partnerships.

If you could go back to the start of your career, what advice would you give yourself?

Don’t fit the mold! Coming from a big corporate setting, I always felt like I needed to ‘fit in’ to be successful. I’m learning that my authenticity is my edge. That my existence alone - as a young woman of color and first-generation immigrant - in the cybersecurity/information security world is a mold breaker.

In short, break the mold, don’t reduce yourself to fit it.

What is your favorite thing about working at Vanta?

Vanta embraces change and craves growth. One of our seven principles is ‘Bias for action, commit to iteration.' Embracing this principle unlocks creativity and makes me feel empowered to take ownership of my projects.

Why are you excited about Vanta’s mission?

When I heard about Vanta and how we’re automating security and compliance, I was hooked. As a previous auditor, our platform addresses the pains that I saw and experienced myself.

Also, knowing and feeling that what we're doing is a huge motivator for me. Even though checking off security and compliance goals can feel daunting for customers, the fact that they even need it in the first place is a huge accomplishment. I am proud that Vanta gets to be a part of that milestone by giving our customers the steam and boost they need to get there easier and faster.

If you can have any superpower, what would it be?

Teleportation - I love to travel and the more spontaneous, the better. First on my list would be Iceland so I can campervan and take in all the sights.

PCI Compliance Selection Guide

Determine Your PCI Compliance Level

If your organization processes, stores, or transmits cardholder data, you must comply with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), a global mandate created by major credit card companies. Compliance is mandatory for any business that accepts credit card payments.

When establishing strategies for implementing and maintaining PCI compliance, your organization needs to understand what constitutes a Merchant or Service Provider, and whether a Self Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ) or Report on Compliance (ROC) is most applicable to your business.

Answer a few short questions and we’ll help identify your compliance level.

Identify your PCI SAQ or ROC level

The PCI Security Standards Council has established the below criteria for Merchant and Service Provider validation. Use these descriptions to help determine the SAQ or ROC that best applies to your organization.

Good news! Vanta supports all of the following compliance levels:

SAQ A

A SAQ A is required for Merchants that do not require the physical presence of a credit card (like an eCommerce, mail, or telephone purchase). This means that the Merchant’s business has fully outsourced all cardholder data processing to PCI DSS compliant third party Service Providers, with no electronic storage, processing, or transmission of any cardholder data on the Merchant’s system or premises.

Get PCI DSS certified

SAQ A-EP

A SAQ A-EP is similar to a SAQ A, but is a requirement for Merchants that don't receive cardholder data, but control how cardholder data is redirected to a PCI DSS validated third-party payment processor.

SAQ D
for service providers

A SAQ D includes over 200 requirements and covers the entirety of PCI DSS compliance. If you are a Service Provider, a SAQ D is the only SAQ you’re eligible to complete.

ROC
Level 1 for service providers

A Report on Compliance (ROC) is an annual assessment that determines your organization’s ability to protect cardholder data. If you’re a Merchant that processes over six million transactions annually or a Service Provider that processes more than 300,000 transactions annually, your organization is responsible for both a ROC and an Attestation of Compliance (AOC).
