Introducing Cyber Essentials and Essential Eight: Putting customers first globally

Just a little over a year ago, Vanta went global with the opening of a European headquarters in Dublin as well as an office in Sydney. And over the past several quarters, we’ve accelerated international momentum by scaling investments across the product and business, from opening our EU data centre to rolling out localised product capabilities, in-region technical support, and more.

Today, we’re excited to announce two new frameworks, Cyber Essentials and Essential Eight, to further support the complex security and compliance needs of our international customers.

Now available: Cyber Essentials and Essential Eight

Cyber Essentials, which is sponsored by the United Kingdom’s National Cyber Security Centre, and Essential Eight, which is sponsored by the Australian Cyber Security Centre, are frameworks that provide organisations with a baseline strategy to protect against cyber attacks. Both are designed to mitigate threats to domestic systems and reduce the impact of cyber attacks.

Based on the most common tactics, techniques, and procedures used by attackers, Cyber Essentials and Essential Eight are commonly found in and asked for by prospective customers in their respective regions. Software buyers in Europe and APAC typically ask companies for proof that they are adhering to Cyber Essentials or Essential Eight before choosing to work with them — making them a must for companies based in those regions.

Unlike ISO 27001 and SOC 2, Cyber Essentials and Essential Eight focus on practical threat management and attack blast radius reduction, rather than the state of your overall security program. This helps you harden your environment to impose a technical cost on would-be attackers. In other words, the more difficult it is for an attacker to exploit, the less likely they are to hit it. However, both provide an excellent foundation for coming into an ISO 27001 or SOC 2 assessment with a strong security posture.
