Meet Arushi!

Hi! I'm Arushi. I'm a Software Engineering intern at Vanta, working on the audit enablement team. We work on software that enables you to have a seamless audit experience.

Tell us about your internship at Vanta

Interning at Vanta has been a dream. I started by working on small features and bugs, then was the engineering lead on a project, and finally got the chance to fully own and drive one of the projects for Q3. The amount of ownership given to interns at Vanta is incomparable, and I feel simultaneously challenged and supported throughout the process.

What made you realize this was the right internship for you?

I was tired of internships where one would be handed a well-packaged intern project and spend 12 weeks on their own working on it with no knowledge about the fate of the project after the internship was over. Did I make something customers even used? I don’t like this black-boxed nature of most internships. At Vanta, I was making changes that users saw from week one. I was working on high-priority tasks from my first sprint. This is what convinced me that Vanta was the right internship.

Why did you decide to choose Vanta over other companies?

At first, I didn't think Vanta was the right place for me—I knew nothing about security or compliance. However, in the course of interviewing, everyone I met was kind and humble and welcoming. I always felt comfortable—I could be myself. As cliché as this might sound, it was the people that were the deciding factor.

Why are you excited about Vanta’s mission or product?

Think back to how many times this year you've gotten the "your password might be compromised" warning from chrome or an email informing users that there had been a data leak in one of the softwares you were using. For me, it's more than a dozen. We put more and more information about ourselves on the internet every day, and it becomes increasingly important to keep that data safe. Vanta's mission is to secure the internet; to make it a place where security matters not just by certificates, but every second of every day. This paradigm shift in how we view security is what gets me excited about Vanta.

What was your favorite quarantine activity?

Back in 2020, when all of us were quarantining (and half losing our minds), I realized that I really missed laughing with friends. It just wasn't the same talking online—we needed some other way to goof around that fit the online world. Because of this, I started running D&D board games with my friends. Immediately, the ribbing and laughing and leg-pulling that was part of our dynamic came back as we played together. We got pretty obsessive about it too—spending four to six hours every week. It was a great time, and it brought us closer together, even when we were thousands of miles away from each other.
