Meet the Team!

October 30, 2021

Meet Jacque! 👋

Jacque Mox is a product support lead at Vanta. She joined the team as employee #13 and has recently celebrated her 2 year Vantaversary.

Tell us about your role at Vanta and a project you are proud of.

I manage the support team - I work heavily in hiring and helping to build out the team. I am very proud of the support org that we’re building and I am proud to be a part of the growth. We went from a team of just me being the only person answering support emails for a while, to a team of more than 10 amazing agents.

What made you realize this was the right career field for you?

I believe there are several career fields that are right for you in your life. I was actually a movie theatre manager, a makeup artist and then stumbled into tech support. It really combines two of my greatest strengths, empathy and technical troubleshooting. As a child I grew up with a disability, so I couldn't do a lot of physical things so I ended up spending a lot of time on my computer chatting to people over the internet. This meant I spent a lot of time troubleshooting my connection and figuring out solutions to technical issues. I love the way that I can combine helping people and this technical knowledge and passion through product support at Vanta.

Why did you decide to choose Vanta over other companies?

Vanta was small and I got to talk directly with our CEO, Christina. It was such a powerful thing to see a woman as CEO, who knew what she wanted and had a company with such product market fit. She made me feel like I would be able to grow with the company, and she’s really kept to that promise.

Why are you excited about Vanta’s mission?

I feel like the next frontier for us as a society as a whole, is privacy issues. I am really happy to be on, what I consider, the right side of history. We are protecting consumer data and holding companies accountable for ensuring that this consumer data is constantly protected. Making the internet a little safer for us to navigate is important to me and I think we’re on the right track.

Describe your disability and how it has shaped your world.

I had spinal tumors at 6 months old which caused a spinal cord injury and I lost the use of my legs, so I’ve used a wheelchair for most of my life. My disability has absolutely shaped my life. I have such an amazing perspective that a lot of folks don’t get to have. Most people would probably think that being disabled would take away opportunities, but for me it has brought countless opportunities into my life. I was able to be a part of wheelchair sports while I was growing up which allowed me to travel. A lot of people in elementary school aren’t going to different states to compete in swimming. I was lucky enough to swim on the USA paralympic swim team in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Ultimately, I’ve met a lot of amazing people and gotten a lot of opportunities to do some incredible things.

I think we, as a society, would be better if we could view wheelchairs as access instead of as a limitation. My wheelchair is something that allows me to experience the world and I’m very grateful and proud to use a wheelchair.

What advice would you give to someone who is considering opening up about their disability?

I understand that it can be very difficult to open up about your disability at first and the connotation can definitely be negative. But I'd say look for hashtags on social media and find your people. Chat with people who have a disability that might be similar to yours, or people who are going through things like you, and really find the pride in who you are and accept that. Once you do and you find your tribe, it will be easier to explain it to folks who are a little more on the outside.

“Vanta's expert team helped analyze our compliance requirements and shared what was needed to complete a SAQ-D. Because of this, we accelerated our timelines, saved hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars in costs.”
