Meet Michelle! 👋

Michelle is a Sales Manager at Vanta. She started at Vanta in January 2021 and she’s based in Indianapolis.

Tell us about your role at Vanta.

I’m lucky enough to lead a team of Account Executives. Essentially, my role is to remove obstacles for them so they can help as many companies as possible get SOC 2 compliant. This includes everything from coaching sales skills to refining sales processes. My job is to help the team feel equipped and prepared to take on any conversation, and feel personally developed in the process. 

I also get to build out our team — arguably one of my favorite parts of this work! Right now we have 10 sales reps in total, and we’re looking to grow the team tremendously in 2021. Specifically, I’ll be building out an Indianapolis hub (and others on the east coast). 

Why Indianapolis? It’s a surprisingly robust and growing market for tech. There’s a really big hub of marketing technology in Indianapolis, and I’m excited to expand the tech options for Indianapolis outside of marketing.

If you could go back to the start of your career, what advice would you give yourself?

I would tell myself that it’s okay not to know everything, but it’s not okay to stop asking questions. Stay curious. If you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room.

Why did you choose Vanta over other companies?

The technology space is booming. There’s a new technology for everything you can imagine, but a lot are nice-to-haves. Working in sales, selling nice-to-haves can be tiring. I was excited about the opportunity to sell a product that would truly solve a deep pain point for people and would make their work lives better. It was an easy choice for me!

What excites or interests you about Vanta’s space / industry?

Having sold to the enterprise, I know having a SOC 2 is considered table stakes. In my previous roles, when we didn’t have our SOC 2, I was on the receiving end of many security questionnaires, all of which were horribly manual and very time-consuming. I’m excited about this space and industry — not only because it helps make the internet a more secure place, but because it also unlocks your sales potential as a business.

What do you like best about working from home?

What I like best about “working from home” is that home can be anywhere! Be it Indianapolis, Denver, Florida, San Francisco, etc — the world opens up to you as a remote employee.
